About Blankets Over Pittsburgh

For approximately fifteen years, Coach Jack has worked as a volunteer for the Red Door Daily Lunch Feeding Program out of St. Mary of Mercy Church in downtown Pittsburgh. About twelve years ago, through the guidance of Betty Penny the director of the Red Door, Coach began taking excess blankets directly at night to the homeless on the streets and under the city bridges in a duffel bag or shopping cart. Over the past few years “Blankets Over Pittsburgh” has expanded in to the distribution of tents, sleeping bags, shovels and bikes directly to the street homeless.Today the ministry includes resume writing, helping find jobs, and gathering furniture for those who have recently found housing.
